For the Leveson Inquiry administrative records in this series, the record opening date is calculated from the closure start date as it was recorded on the schedule that was approved by the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives in February 2014. As a result all closed records in the series are due to become open on 3 March 2072 rather than on an individual basis based on the dates of the individual records.

The Prime Minister announced a two-part inquiry investigating the role of the press and police in the phone-hacking scandal, on 13 July 2011. Lord Justice Leveson was appointed as Chairman of the Inquiry.
Part one of the Inquiry examined the culture, practices and ethics of the press and, in particular, the relationship of the press with the public, police and politicians.
