To: The General Board of Health.
From: Thomas Thornton, Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Bishop Auckland [Durham].
Letter stating that the Bishop Auckland Local Board has been considering the propriety of providing a partial supply of water, from a spring yielding 13 gallons per head, to the town of Bishop Auckland, until a more permanent and ample supply can be obtained. Thornton enquires whether the Board can levy a Special District Rate to raise £1000 for the execution of the proposed works, without having to obtain the sanction of the General Board of Health.
