Folios 152-156.
To: The General Board of Health.
From: Thomas Thornton, Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Bishop Auckland [Durham].
Letter enclosing the plans and sections [not included] for the sewerage of the District of Bishop Auckland, with the Engineer's report and estimate of cost, for the approval of the General Board of Health. Thornton explains that the system of sewerage laid down upon the plans is simply an extension of the old sewers and the Local Board have been informed by their Surveyor that it 'leaves much of the cellarage of the town unprovided for, and the three principal outfalls are also considered objectionable'. He adds that the plans and sections for the proposed water works will be forwarded in a few days.
