Folios 698-700.
To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: R H Buse, Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Bideford [Devon].
Letter stating in reply to a letter dated 24 April 1864 that Mr W Illman made an application to the Local Board for the alteration of the position of a public lamp in Honestone Lane some time ago. Buse explains that 'after due deliberation and making a personal inspection of the locus in quo' the Local Board deemed it 'undesirable to comply with such request'. Buse states that the Board do not wish to make any comment on the petition 'further than it does not disclose the circumstance of Mr Illman having erected a gate across the new entrance and in some instances denied the public access to it'. He adds that he is enclosing a tracing from the town map [not included] which the Board believes will show the position of the lamp and the formation of the street.
