Folio 666.
To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: R H Buse, Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Bideford [Devon].
Letter enquiring whether 'the repairs of highways and sewerage be denominated public works'. It is explained that 'it is apprehended that such is the case, and that consequently highway repair and paving will now form a charge on the General District Rate, and not be levied by a Highway Rate'. Buse further enquires whether the Local Board would be 'out of order' in duplicating the Common Seal of the borough marked with the words 'Local Government Board', 'in order that the Board may be enabled to seal documents ... without the inconvenience of having to apply for the Common Seal'.
