Enclosure dated 9 April regarding the intelligence report of Captain Eaton, commander of HMS Chester, giving an account of observations from the port of Thoulon [Toulon]. Includes the fitting out of ships to take an ambassador to Constantinople, news of the Pretender [James Edward Stuart] and leading Jacobites at Avignon (including Ormonde and Mar), and a reported assassination attempt on the king [the young Louis XV]. Also includes a detailed listing of French vessels in port.
