Enclosed extract (dated 12 February) from Vice Admiral Baker at Port Mahon"giving an account of the naval preparations of the Spaniards, and the present posture of other affairs in the Mediterranean". Regards: the fitting out at Genoa of warships under the command of the Marquis de Mari for the service of the King of Spain [Philip V], includes vessels commanded by a 'Scotchman' Sherlock and an Irishman Walcup (having six galleys at Carthagena); the expected arrival of the Marechal the Duke of Berwick at Madrid from Paris; the victualing of [Royal Navy] ships at Gibraltar and the taking of prizes [by the Dutch] after the rupture of relations with the States of Holland.
