University Grants Committee: Registered Files

This series contains selected registered files of the University Grants Committee. They cover all aspects of the Committee's works, both in funding running costs and in providing grants for particular building projects and other capital developments. Many of the files, especially the earlier ones, relate to individual universities and colleges, though the series contains an increasing number of policy files.

The files cover the expansion of existing universities and the founding of new ones during the 1950s and 1960s, the merger of universities and colleges of education in the 1970s, the introduction and provision of large main-frame computers, development and provision of specialist courses, particularly in the field of medicine, agriculture, technology and scientific research, and salary rates and pensions for university staff.

The series also contains the agenda and minutes of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals. Also included in this series are visit notes produced by members of the committee and papers relating to the National Advisory Body for Public Sector Higher Education (NAB).

The series also contains a number of files relating to the University of Wales.
