Administrative / biographical background

On an undetermined date between 1923 and 1934 the Ministry of Transport transferred its legal work from its own Secretarial and Legal Department to the Treasury Solicitor, which set up an outstation at the Ministry. The presence of a Treasury Solicitor satellite branch at the Ministry of Transport continued through all of the latter's subsequent departmental re-organisations and its operational name was modified on numerous occasions.
