The Financial Services Division was created in 1981 and succeeded the Financial Institutions and Savings Division which had both existed under the Domestic Economy Sector, Home Finance Group.
Its remit was the coordination of policy with regard to: the Bank of England; prudential supervision of banks and deposit taking institutions; work with the Trustee Savings Banks, National Giro and other financial institutions; policy on building societies and other financial institutions.
