The Financial Institutions Division was created in 1981 and replaced the Financial Institutions and Savings Division under the same organisational structure. it was responsible for policy work concerning: the Bank of England; supervision of other banks and deposit taking financial institutions; Trustee Savings Bank; National Giro and other financial institutions; building societies; and, city matters.
In 1987, its title was abbreviated to FIM1.
