Description

Journals giving brief details, under cases, of matters referred by the Admiralty to its Solicitor for report, and of the action taken by him to dispose of them. Besides serving as a day-to-day guide for the Solicitor to the state of business in any particular instance, the journals may, where litigation was involved, have been used subsequently in connection with bills of costs.

The journals embrace a wide range of Admiralty legal business, and include entries concerning such matters as contracts, criminal prosecutions, inventions, parliamentary bills, prize money, purchase of land for dockyards, coastguard stations, etc and ship collision claims.
