Administrative / biographical background

The Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee (HSAC) is the successor body to the Advisory Committee on Hazardous Substances (ACHS) which was abolished on 22 July 2012.

The HSAC is an expert scientific committee of the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) which provides the Secretariat for the committee. The HSAC provides expert advice on the science behind hazardous chemicals. It is made up of scientists and a lay member.
