Folio 276. Letter from Joseph Knight, Clerk to the Guardians of the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. The rate book of Newcastle parish contains 130 pages so Knight wishes the Board to send him 10 more blank forms. A small part of the parish of Stoke upon Trent is in the limits of the parliamentary borough of Newcastle under Lyme. Knight wishes the Board to inform him if he needs to obtain returns from the Stoke parish or whether the Board wish to procure it from the guardians of that parish. The collector of rates for Newcastle parish died this morning after a short illness. Knight apologises that he shall be unable to send the returns by the date stated as the collector was the only person who had the information.
Annotated: 10 forms sent and a memo stating that the clerk of the parish of Stoke on Trent will supply the information for the portion of the parish within the borough.
