Folio 273. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board to Joseph Knight, Clerk to the Guardians of the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union, regarding the conduct of the schoolmaster [Edward Ellison] and the request of the guardians to remove him from his office. The Board request the guardians to give them more specific statements as to the charges of misconduct on the part of the schoolmaster with reference to his incompetency to preserve discipline in the school. On receiving this information the Board will write to the schoolmaster for his explanation which will then determine what course they will take.
