Folios 164-167. Letter from Mr Twemlow [Chairman of the Board of Guardians of the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union], to the Poor Law Board. He is reporting back on the results of the extraordinary meeting that had been held. A medical certificate is enclosed signed by M Ryan MD stating that Mr Harding [Clerk to the Guardians] is suffering from Hemiplegia, or partial paralysis, and his recovery is uncertain. He had been clerk for 20 years and the guardians felt if it was agreed by the board that he should receive a pension, as the state of his health means that he can no longer discharge his duties. There followed a copy of the meeting with Joseph Knight being appointed as replacement clerk
Annotated: Mr Doyle, that the appointment be for 6 months, to which he agreed.
