Folios 140-141. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board, to Thomas Sherratt of Talk on the Hill, Lawton, Cheshire, regarding the appointment of a collector of rates and assistant overseer for the parish of Audley in the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union. The Board state they are prepared to issue an order under Act 7& 8 Vic c 101 s 62 upon application from the guardians. A collector appointed under an order of the Board would be entitled to hold office until death, resignation or removal by the Board.
If the duties 'properly belong to an assistant overseer' a person should be appointed by the vestry under the Act 59 Geo III c 12 s 7. An officer appointed this way may be dismissed by the vestry at any time.
