Letter from Thomas Sherratt of Talk on the Hill, Lawton, Cheshire, to the Poor Law Board, requesting information on appointing a paid officer for the collection of poor rates in the parish of Audley in the Newcastle under Lyme Poor Law Union. Debate amongst the parishioners regarding the old system and the new system and whether the vestry has powers to dismiss a paid officer.
Annotated: Board could issue an order to authorise the guardians to appoint an officer; a person appointed under the Act Geo III c 12 s 7 may be dismissed by the vestry at any time.
