Folios 134-135. Letter from Thomas Twemlow, of Betley Court, Chairman of Newcastle under Lyme Board of Guardians, to the Poor Law Board, regarding the salary of Samuel Harding, Clerk to the Guardians and payment he claims is due to him for his role as returning officer. Twemlow states that all the expenses claimed have been paid under article 3 of the General Orders 1847 and the salary of the clerk was fixed at £100 per annum at the recommendation of [Thomas Stevens], Assistant Poor Law Commissioner.
Annotated: a copy of this letter to be sent to Harding and 'it is clear the guardians do not consider he is entitled to the payment'.
