Folios 341-343. Letter from A A [Alfred Austin, Assistant Poor Law Commissioner] to the Poor Law Commission about the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union. He has read the papers and is returning them, with the letter he has received from the medical officer, Mr Fletcher.
Enclosed letter from Fletcher. In his report to the board the previous day, [of those paupers who were ill], he said several had got well, and others were improving. Sarah Hodgkiss, who was recovering from diarrhea [diarrhoea], had a child of four who he feared would not recover. He subsequently died. There were no cases of [Asiatic cholera]. The [illegible] is better, but still in a pernicious state. The guardians Wright, Greening, Johnson and three illegible names have visited the workhouse. [Much of the letter is illegible but appears to say that some of the guardians became ill themselves. There is a reference to Dr Evans and visits to Bromsgrove and Alvechurch. He also mentions the diet in the workhouse.]
Paper Number: 11098/B/1844.
Poor Law Union Number 526.
