Description

Folio 316. Letter from Thomas Day, Clerk to the Guardians of the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Commission, about their letter of 4 March enclosing a copy of a letter from Mrs Griffin [Sarah Griffin]. This refers to her husband's [Felix Griffin] claim for compensation for alleged encroachment on his land during the building of the workhouse, and for rent for a shed alleged to have been used by the workmen to store their tools. The guardians considered this at their meetings on 8 and 15 March 1844; they referred it to a committee who reported to the board on 6 May 1844. A copy of the report is enclosed [the report appears to be included in this volume folios 318-319].

Annotated: Mr Lumley [William Golden Lumley, Assistant Secretary to the Poor Law Commission].

Annotated: inform Mrs Griffin that the guardians are willing to pay her £2 10s [£2 15s] for the alleged damage. They reject her claim for rent as a long period has elapsed since the right accrued (if there was any right). The Commission cannot intervene further.
