Description

Folio 305. Printed schedule certified by Thomas Day, Clerk to the Guardians of the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union, on the election of guardians of the poor for 1844. Schedule contains proposed and elected poor law guardians for the union:

For Bromsgrove: Charles Cresswell of the High Street, Farmer; Joshua Bell Crane of the High Street, Currier; Benjamin Johnson of the High Street, Nail factor; William Green of Dodford, Farmer; William Augustine Greening of the High Street, Grocer.

For Stoke Prior: Reverend Harcourt Aldham of Vicarage House, Clerk.

For Redditch: Edwin Smallwood of Chapel Green, Needle manufacturer.

For Bentley Pauncefoot: Joseph Wright of Bentley House, Farmer.

For Tutnell and Cobley: Richard Moore, Farmer.

For Coston Hackett [Cofton Hackett]: John Penn of Cofton Hall, Farmer.

For Bellbroughton [Belbroughton]: Reverend John Wylde, Clerk.

For Hagley: John Waldron of Hagley Hill Farm.

For Pedmore: Edward Smith, Farmer.

For Clent: Thomas Smith of Old Mill Farm, Farmer.

For Frankley: Robert Jones of Warstone, Farmer.

For Hunnington: John Partridge, Farmer.

For Romsley: Abraham Malin Willetts of St Kenemlm's Green, Farmer.

The following refused to serve the office: Philemon Bayliss Heynes of Burcott, Farmer; William Whitehouse of Money Lane, Farmer; Henry Baylis of Sugars Brook Farm, Farmer and Miller; Joseph Russon of Warwick Hall, Farmer; Joseph Potter of Hagley, Maltster; Henry Hiatt of Offtmoor Farm [Offmoor Farm]; George White of Frankley Park.

As no one was elected for Webheath or Alvechurch, the current guardians, Robert Brough and Simon Baylies respectively may continue to serve, as provided for in 5& 6 Vic c57 s10.
