Administrative / biographical background

The Accounts Branch of the Treasury was set up around 1870 and from 1870 to 1986 was split into two sections, the Exchequer Section and the Grants section, controlled by the Accountant and Deputy Accountant respectively. The two sections were later amalgamated.
