Description

Correspondence, minutes and papers of the working party set up by direction of the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Anderson) in 1945 to consider the future of the imperial silver coinage. The bill papers in connection with this act are included in this series. There is also a short memorandum, a telegram and a letter from Lord Keynes.

In 1945 a working party, under the chairmanship of Sir Herbert Brittain, was set up by direction of the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Anderson) to consider the future of the imperial silver coinage. Its recommendations gave rise to the Coinage Act 1946 which provided for the substitution of cupro-nickel coin for silver.
