Administrative / biographical background

The Central Priority Department was set up in 1939 in the Ministry of Supply in order to execute the decisions of the Ministerial Priority Committee and its sub-committees. In practice it found itself more concerned with allocation of raw materials, than priority

In 1941 it was combined with the secretariat of the Industrial Capacity Committee within the Production Executive. Its function was to allocate materials, capacity and labour and to establish priorities where necessary. It was absorbed by the Ministry of Production in 1942.
