Description (What the record is about)
-
These volumes contain entries of English sheriffs' bills of craving for allowance of expenses. They concern mainly the issuing of proclamations, the holding of parliamentary elections and the holding of assizes, including custody of persons awaiting trial and executions. Until 1849 bills of craving were examined by the Exchequer Seal Office, and some reports from this office are entered as well. Some original bills for work done by local tradesmen and for newspaper advertisements have been inserted in the books.
