Dr Ramsey, 100th Archbishop of Canterbury, enthroned in Canterbury Cathedral. 'The 100th Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Michael Ramsey, was enthroned on June 27th 1961, in a ninety-minute service rich in colour and majestic ceremony. An invited congregation of more than 4,000 occupied every seat in the nave of the cathedral, and nearly 1,000 robed clergy were in the choir. Overseas bishops of the Anglican communion included the Archbishop of Jerusalem, and the bishops from New York, Gibraltar, Borneo, Amritsar, Jordan, Sudan and Qunicy, IIIinois. Among foreign visitors were bishops of the Oecumenical Patriarchate, the Patriarchate of Antioch, the Greek Orthodox Church, and the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands. Dr Ramsey was garbed in cope and mitre of cloth of gold, the border of the cope and mitre being of deep rose pink damask silk edged with gold.' Individual photographs are described at item level.
