Drafts of maps and plans prepared by the Municipal and Parliamentary Boundaries Commissioners, and copper plates from which the published impressions were taken.
The maps show various towns and cities in England, Wales and Ireland, and vary considerably in size, scale and origin. Some are tracings from Ordnance surveyors' drawings at the scale of 2 inches to 1 mile [1:31,680]. Many others are printed maps, including some cut from, enlarged from or partly based on Ordnance Survey mapping; a significant number of the printed maps are annotated in manuscript. Reports, draft reports, forms and related notes are filed with many of the maps.
The items within most pieces are arranged in alphabetical order by town or city name. Apparent deviations from this norm are due to variant place name forms and spellings; for instance, Cefnllys (Radnorshire) is alphabetised under K (a now-obsolete variant spelling is 'Kevinleece').
