Entries of the letters of direction signed by the secretaries to the Treasury which followed upon the issue of orders to the tellers and indicated the particular account upon which any prescribed payment was to be drawn. Down to the end of the year 1762 there is one general series of the books, after which the directions upon the Civil List are separated from those for the public service until the year 1834 when the old Exchequer offices were abolished.
