Description

This subsubseries contains numbered interrogation reports (P.W.I.S.(H) references) of enemy prisoners of war interviewed at various Prisoner of War Interrogation Section (Home) centres in the United Kingdom, mainly Lingfield (Surrey), but some at Kempton Park (Middlesex) and London District Cage.

P.W.I.S.(H) interviews provided a first line of interrogation of enemy prisoners arriving in the United Kingdom, to extract information or to establish whether a prisoner merited further investigation by the Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Centre (UK) - C.S.D.I.C.(U.K.). The reports therefore are fairly short (often only one sheet) and follow a fairly standard layout, starting by recording details of the enemy prisoner being interviewed (for example, name, rank, unit, number, where and when captured and transferred from), and where and when the interview was taking place. Some reports include other personal details, and many begin with a 'preamble' describing the personality and character of the prisoner before going on to the main body of the interview. The reports generally concern German military issues and situation, organisations, operations, equipment and personalities. Many of the reports include organisational diagrams of various units.

Note: the composition or layout of the original (former) references is variant in terms of spaces, brackets and slashes.
