Administrative / biographical background

A western branch of the Stationery Office was established in Bristol in the 1930s as a precaution against London being bombed in a future war. The Bristol Branch was spacious enough for it to be used for additional storage and it remained a warehouse after the disbandment of regional organisation in 1981.
