Description

Gazettes, edicts and pamphlets printed in the Spanish Netherlands.

The gazettes range in date from 1666 to 1688 and take the usual newsletter form of reports from principal European cities.

The edicts range in date from 1584 to 1725. The majority were issued in time of war or impending war and deal with troops and fortifications. There are edicts issued against individuals, notably Count Egmont in 1639.

The pamphlets range in date from 1583 to 1683. There are many accounts of battles and sieges, particularly during the Thirty Year's War. Some list the terms under which towns are surrendered. The non-political pamphlets are diverse in nature, ranging from challenges to tournaments, to catalogues for sales.
