The Welsh Office Economic and Regional Planning Group was created in 1983 from the predecessor Economic Planning Group. It comprised three Divisions under its control: Division 1 responsible for debates, Parliamentary Questions, Enterprise zones and coordination in the field of economic policy for Wales; Division 2 responsible for the operation of the European Development Fund in Wales and general monitoring of EC affairs; Division 3 responsible for the urban programme, Enterprise Trust and Urban Development Grant, mid-Wales development (Development Board for Rural Wales) Wales Tourist Board, countryside and nature conservation, national parks, commons, camping and caravanning.
