The Management (Personnel) Group transferred to the Civil Service Department on its creation in 1968, with responsibility for duties relating to personnel and all other aspects of assisting central and departmental management to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Civil Service in the planning of programmes and the use of resources, including Civil Service manpower strategy and control. O and M surveys, statistics, training, provision of medical advisory services and welfare.
The Civil Service Department was dissolved in 1981 and the function transferred to the new Management and Personnel Office in 1981, which became part of the Cabinet Office in 1982.
