Captured ship: Wanton (master Thomas Cottle).
History: an American merchant ship (schooner, 110 tons, 2 swivels, 8 men, formerly the British ship Nancy bound from Grenada to Cork in convoy, taken on 3 July 1777 by the American privateers American Revenue (Samuel Champlin commanding) and United States (Benjamin Pierce commanding) and brought in to Bedford, Massachusetts), now bound from Charleston to Curacao, laden with rice and pitch; taken on 30 November 1778 in latitude 30°30'N, longitude 68°0'W by HMS Maidstone (Allen Gardener commanding), and brought into New York.
Court papers: 1-12 plus two ; Ship's papers: 13-17.
