Captured ship: Richmond of Rappahannock VA (master George Ford).
History: an American merchant ship (schooner, 35 tons, 2 guns, 11 men), bound from Curacao to Virginia, laden with sugar, coffee, salt; taken on 9 October 1779 in latitude 35°45'N, by the privateers Byron of Bristol (John Russell commanding), Sir George Collier of New York (Captain Nicholson commanding), Admiral Artbuthnot of New York (Captain Downey commanding), Hammond of New York of New York (Captain Kidd commanding), and Lord North of New York (Captain McDonald commanding); the captures ship was scuttled, the cargo divided, and the Byron of Bristol began the court process in Bristol (the other privateers appreantly returning to New YorK).
