Captured ship: Petit Compere Mathieu of Dunkirk (commander Jean Nicolas Sauvage).
History: a French privateer (10 tons, 2 swivel guns, 18 men, 6 English prisoners), bound from Dunkirk on a cruise; taken on 2 July 1781 about 5 leagues from Le Havre by HMS Daphne (William Carlyon,esq commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.
Court papers: 1-3; Ship's papers: 4-5. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
