Captured ship: Harlequin (commander John Earle).
History: an American merchant ship with commission (schooner, 60 tons, 4 guns, 24 men), bound from Havana to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, laden with sugar, dollars; taken on 19 September 1782 between Bombo Hook and Reedy Island, Delaware by the privateers Kidnapper (John Kid commanding), Ranger (John Jones commanding), and Jolly Tar (Daniel James Brooks commanding), and brought into New York. Earle had previously been taken in Jamaica in or about February 1782 by HMS Licorne.
Court papers: 1-3; Ship's papers: 4-27. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
