Captured ship: Harlequin (master Nathaniel Phillips).
History: an American ship (sloop, 40 tons), bound from Hispaniola to Rhode Island, laden with molasses,sugar, hides, indigo; taken on 23 November 1776 in latitude 39°45'N by HMS Perseus (George Keith Elphinstone commanding), and brought into New York. Formerly taken by the William and Mary transport.
