British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: General Green (commander Aaron Crowel).
Capture history: an American privateer (ship, 140 tons, 16 guns, 89 men), on a cruise; taken on 30 August 1782 in latitude 40°N, by HMS Ceres (James Hawkins commanding), and HMS Perseverance (Skeffington Lutwidge commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: a cruise from the United States.
Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Richard Halsall quartermaster of HMS Ceres, 4 September 1782;
- [CP 2]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Hawkins and Lutwidge v The ship General Green, 4 September 1782;
- [CP 3]: deposition of Aaron Crowell of Salem (owners are John Page, Samuel Cleveland and Samuel Croel), 4 September 1782.
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-2:-
- SP 1: printed privateer commission, 9 August 1782;
- SP 2: printed instructions of Congress, 7 April 1781.
