Captured ship: General Dalling (master Robert Spears).
History: an English merchant ship (300 to 400 tons, 10 guns, 27 men), bound from Kingston, Jamaica to Port Glasgow, laden with sugar, rum coffee, cotton, ginger, logwood; taken in fight on 25 September 1779 about seven leagues from the Smalls, Pembrokeshire, by the French privateer Duchesse De Chartres, retaken on the same day by HMS Swallow (Richard Bickerton, esq commanding), and HMS Lively (John Inglefield, esq commanding),and brought into Bristol.
