Description

High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Friends Goodwill of Sunderland (master James Pierson).

Capture history: an English merchant ship (80 tons) bound from Sunderland to Portsmouth, laden with coal; taken on 29 July 1782 by the French privateer Fantasie (Richard Boorne commanding), retaken on 30 July 1782 by HMS Shark (John Maitland commanding) and HMS Kite (John Peyton commanding) and brought into the Downs.

Intended voyage: within England.

Court papers numbered CP 1:-

  • [CP 1]: attestation as to the capture by James Pierson, Christopher Laws, John Maitland and John Peyton, 8-12 August 1782.

[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2025].
