Description

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Fanny (master Donald Mckay).

History: an American merchant ship (sloop, 35 tons), found trading in the rebellious colonies, laden with rum, molasses, osnaburghs [coarse linen]; taken on 14 November 1776 near Cape Henlopen, Delaware by HMS Orpheus (Charles Hudson commanding), HMS Daphne (St John Chinnery commanding), and brought into [New York ?].

Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-

  • [CP 1]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Hudson v The sloop Fanny, 10 December 1777;
  • [CP 2]: deposition of William Young, late of HMS Daphne, 5 January 1778.

[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-2 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2025].
