British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Fancy of Philadelphia (master Joseph Titcomb).
History: an American merchant ship (sloop, 50 tons) bound from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Falmouth, Massachusetts, laden with flour; taken on 20 July 1776 at Cape Henlopen, Delaware by HMS Orpheus (Charles Hudson commanding), and brought into [New York ?].
Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master John Henry, master's mate, 8 December 1777;
- [CP 2]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Hudson v The sloop Fancy, 10 December 1777.
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-5:-
- SP 1: certificate in place of a register;
- SP 2: manuscript clearance issued by the Congress of the Thirteen Colonies, 3 July 1776, Philadelphia;
- SP 3-SP 4: invoices of cargo, 1776;
- SP 5: bill of lading, Philadelphia, 10 July 1776.
