British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Endeavour (master Ambrose Bartlett).
History: an American merchant ship (schooner, 20 tons) bound from Philadelphia to the non-British West Indies, laden with pine, flour, biscuits and onions; taken on 20 July 1777, near Cape Henlopen by HMS Orpheus (Charles Hudson commanding), and brought into New York.
Court papers numbered CP 1-2:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master John Hay, master's mate, 8 December 1777;
- [CP 2]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Hudson v The schooner Endeavour and her cargo, 10 December 1777.
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-2 [early Pennsylvania papers]:-
- SP 1: manuscript ship's register, Philadelphia, 15 July 1776;
- SP 2: manuscript clearance from Philadelphia, 15 July 1776.
[Papers previously wrongly identified as Court papers: 1-2; Ship's papers: 3-4 (large pencil numbers): sorted and renumbered in 2025].
