High Court of Admiralty.
Captured ship: L'Emulation (master Jacques Viand).
History: a French merchant ship (snow, 170 tons, 17 men), bound from St Marc, Saint Domingue to Bordeaux, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo, cotton and timber; taken on 4 September 1778 in latitude 46°N, longitude 14°W by the privateer Prince of Wales (Henry Bagwell commanding), and brought into Teignmouth.
Court papers: 1-19; Ship's papers: 20-33. [These are interim paper numbers, and are likely to change once more fully catalogued].
