British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.
Captured ship: Eliza (master John Vicary).
History: an American merchant ship (schooner, 100 tons) bound from [the Delaware] to Havana, Cuba, laden with flour, etc; taken on 21 April 1782 off the Delaware River by HMS Pearl (George Montagu commanding), HMS Quebec (Christopher Mason commanding), HMS Belisarius (Richard Graves commanding), HMS Grana (Chichester Fortescue commanding), HMS Bonetta (John Coates commanding), and brought into New York.
Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-
- [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Charles Henry Ker, master's mate of HMS Pearl, 1 May 1782;
- [CP 2]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Montagu v The schooner Eliza, 1 May 1782;
- [CP 3]: monition, 1 May 1782.
[Decision: condemned, if no response to the monition by 21 May 1782].
Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-3 (Pennsylvania papers):-
- SP 1: clearance, 6 April 1782;
- SP 2: ship's register;
- SP 3: bill of lading, for potatoes.
