Description

British New York Vice-Admiralty Court.

Captured ship: Eagle (commander George House).

History: an American privateer (schooner, 45 tons, 14 guns, 21 men) bound from Philadelphia or New London on a cruise; taken on 5 April 1781 about 5 leagues from Sandy Hook by HMS Medea (Henry Duncan commanding), and brought into New York.

Court papers numbered CP 1-3:-

  • [CP 1]: affidavit of papers brought in by the prize master Peter Willias Hodge, midshipman, 25 April 1781;
  • [CP 2]: libel in Advocate General at the relation of Duncan v The armed schooner Eagle, 25 April 1781;
  • [CP 3]: deposition of George House, 25 April 1781.
