Captured ship: Diana (commander Thorndike Deland).
Capture history: an American merchant ship with a letter of marque (brigantine, 80 or 105 tons, 6 guns, 14 men) bound from Salem, Massachusetts to Cap François, Saint Domingue, laden with fish, lumber, oil; taken on 29 August 1782 at George's Bank [off Massachusetts] about 25 leagues from Cape Sables, Nova Scotia by HMS Perseverance (Skeffington Lutwidge commanding), and HMS Ceres (James Hawkins commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.
