Captured ship: Delight of Maryland (commander David Porter).
Capture history: an American privateer (sloop, 35 or 40 tons, 8 guns, 9 men) bound from Baltimore, Maryland to Martinique, laden with tobacco, beeswax, bread; taken on 30 May 1778 in latitude 34°N, longitude 77°W off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina by the loyalist privateer General Howe (John Ceary commanding), and brought into New York.
Intended voyage: from the United States to the Caribbean Islands.
